I believe an elected position, such as the State House seat, should function to serve the constituents, PEOPLE FIRST. Growing up in Maine there was a strong sense of local community. I was surrounded by small business owners on both sides of my family, including construction and logging. These instilled values and ethics of hard work, dedication, self-dependency proved to be successful self-starters. Such taught me that working hard will always yield a reward and I believe developing these skill sets offer a reserve for difficult times. Our family was always actively involved with the people in the community who simultaneously supported each other, emphasizing to me precisely what a community means.
My college path was to school in Boston, Massachusetts, earning a Bachelors of Science while working to pay my own way through. Graduating into the economic downturn in the mid 1990’s, jobs were scarce in the competitive Boston market. To obtain the position one would traditionally have out of school I had to accept unpaid positions to gain experience, and eventually obtain a job in my desired field. Corporate Design was my chosen concentration which enabled me to progress towards working for Architectural companies as a Designer, Owner’s Representative and Architectural Representative.
Now, my home is in Charlestown Township; a historic farm my family purchased as a foreclosed property that was vacant several years and in in total despair. The farm restoration would utilize my family’s experiences and serve to teach hands-on lessons to our two young daughters. We worked to support over 20 small businesses for the restoration, and holding true to our belief of buy local and buy American.
I believe in “PEOPLE FIRST”. A random act of kindness can have an impact on an individual and thus extend to the community. Currently I am an outreach partner for several people, ranging from equine interaction to vocational education. Working within the Township, I serve as the Chair of the Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB), and Liaison to – Planning and Zoning.
